Resveratrol — a natural compound found in red wine, grapes, blueberries, peanuts and other plants — has been found to promote longevity and health in a variety of ways. For example, scientists have found evidence it prevents heart disease, helps keep weight under control, normalizes cholesterol levels and may prevent diabetes. Now there’s another benefit to add to this remarkable list of benefits: it could prevent some of the top causes of blindness.
Resveratrol, a phytochemical found in red grapes, grape juice and red wine, has been shown to prolong life in yeast and animals because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. But does that mean it has the same effects on the human body? University at Buffalo (UB) endocrinologists have tested the natural compound for the first time in a prospective trial in people and found the answer appears to be “yes”

Scientists believe that the Pomegranate has the power to reduce the fat stored round the stomach- the’spare tyre’ in men, or’muffin top’ in women.
After just one month, volunteers who consumed a bottle of pomegranate juice every day were found to be less likely to develop fatty cells around their abdomen.
They also had much lower blood pressure, therefore reducing their risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney disease.
The researchers from the University of Edinburgh believe pomegranate juice may lower the amount of fatty acid in the blood, known as ‘nonesterified fatty acid’ or NEFA. Previous studies in humans and animals have shown that high NEFA levels are linked to a greater storage of fat around the abdomen, as well as an increased risk of heart disease and type II diabetes.
In the experiment, 24 men and women were given a 500ml bottle of pomegranate juice to drink every day for four weeks. The researchers found that nearly half of all volunteers had much lower NEFA levels by the end of the trial. They believe that this will make them less likely to store fat around their stomach.
Now Biotivia, a world leading Bioceutical firm, has recognised the antioxidant power of pomegranate and added a concentrated extract of this fruit along with Alpha Lipoic Acid, extracts of the super fruits Mangosteen, Goji Berry and Grape Seed extract, and the ‘miracle molecule, Resveratrol, to create a supplement called Bio Quench. The Pomegranate extract in Bio Quench is equivalent to over 500 liters of organic Pomegranate juice.
James Betz, founder and CEO of Biotivia said: “Bio Quench was designed to mop up free radicals through a multi-faceted approach. The super-fruit extracts it contains works together with bio-enhanced Resveratrol and alpha lipoic acid, to prevent damage to the body’s cells, organs and DNA.”
Bio Quench works by neutralizing free radicals and providing your body with a first line of defense against reactive oxidative stress. It has been tested by Brunswick Laboratory, the leading authority on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) test, and it came back with a rating of 13,580, which is one of the highest for any supplement the lab has tested.
Betz continues: “Bio Quench sets a new standard for super antioxidants. Biotivia has eclipsed every other advanced antioxidant on the market. Our daily dose is equivalent to over 500 liters of pure, organic Pomegranate juice. No other product has the potency and antioxidant effectiveness of Bio Quench”

Of the various interventions to prevent diarrhoea, probiotics offer potential.
A ‘high-potency’ lactic acid bacteria supplement may ease the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in children, says a new study that echoes results from adult studies.
A daily dose of VSL Pharmaceuticals VSL#3 branded probiotic was found to reduce measures of abdominal pain and discomfort and levels of bloating and gassiness, according to findings published in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
